Switzerland was first represented at Under 17 level at the European Championships in 2010. From this early debut into international netball, the development programme for junior players was then implemented through a national training programme “Cadre d’espoir”, which over the course of 5 years greatly improved the standards of netball in Switzerland. In 2015, the Under 17 team took gold, winning their group and becoming Netball Europe Challenge Cup Champions. 2016 saw the team take silver, but the Under 17 Challenge Cup was regained successfully in 2017.
At open level, Switzerland has held a world ranking since June 2012, when we played 8 international ranking matches against Israel, Malta, Gibraltar and the Republic of Ireland in order to begin our campaign to climb the ranking ladder. Since this tournament, Switzerland has attended and organised international ranking events and has held a highest ranking to date of 28th in the world. As of 2018, Swiss Netball is working on consolidating its performance pathway in order to return to playing ranking games in the near future.
The current 2017-18 National Squad consists of our best netballers, who come together to train and prepare for international matches. Switzerland continues to enter the Netball Europe Under 17 Championships and is looking into entering Under 21s as a bridge to strengthening the numbers of elite athletes available to then compete at open level.
